TOPEKA, Kan. - Two in the race for the Republican nomination for the congressional seat held by Rep. Nancy Boyda (D-Kan.) are touting big support Thursday.

Jim Ryun announced the financial support of more than 2,100 Kansans. Some of that support is on display in Ryun's latest campaign ad.

"Kansans know I have always put their values first and their support demonstrates a strong belief in my ability to represent their best interests in Washington," Ryun said. "I am humbled and grateful to count not only on their support financially but on their vote."

Ryun continues to travel the Second District and will be campaigning in St. Paul and Pittsburg Thursday night.

Meantime, Ryun's opponent, State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins announced Thursday that 11 former chairs of the Kansas State Republican Party stand behind her for the Second Congressional District Republican nomination.

The following letter is from Jenkins' supporting GOP leaders:
"Serving as leaders of the Kansas Republican Party, we have seen a lot of talent come and go throughout the years. Lynn Jenkins stands out as one of the most effective and talented leaders not only in Kansas, but nationwide. There is no better time than now to send Lynn to Washington, D.C. to put an end to out of control spending, secure our borders, and keep taxes low. We know her leadership style and incredible work ethic will serve Kansans of the 2nd district very well. At a time when our country needs leadership and our party needs to be restored, we are proud to stand behind Lynn in her bid for Congress and urge our fellow Republicans to do the same."

Sincerely,
Vern Chesbro (1995-96)
Rochelle Chronister (1989-90)
Don Concannon (1968-70)
William Falstad (1970-73)
Dennis Jones (2003-04)
Morris Kay (1979-82)
Mary Alice Lair (1982)
George Nettels (1966-68)
Donald Schnacke (1961-62)
Tim Shallenburger (2005-06)
Kim Wells (1991-94)

The winner of next month's GOP primary will be on the ballot against Democrat Boyda in the November election.

Republicans have had enough of Jim...his own party doesn't even want him anymore.

Why do so many of these former GOP chairs give money to Democratic Gov. Sebelius, or former Democratic Attorney General Paul Morrison, or have connections with groups friendly with the Democratic Party? http://kansasmeadowlark.com/2008/07/11/former-republican-chair-endorse-jenkins/
