TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A 34 year-old is being blamed for setting fire to a central Topeka home late Wednesday afternoon. James Flynn IV was arrested for aggravated arson as well as theft of a motor vehicle, according to the Shawnee Co. Dept. of Corrections.

Firefighters were called to the home, 525 SW Clay St., shortly after 5:30 p.m. By the time they arrived, heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the rear of the house, which had been divided into multiple apartments.

Investigators believe the fire started on an enclosed porch behind the house.

They estimated the blaze caused $20,000 in damages to the structure of the home and $5,000 to the contents of the home.

When firefighters were first called to the scene, they were told someone may be inside, but everyone had made it out by the time they got there.

The American Red Cross also responded to assist three people.
