Services are set in Fort Scott for famed Life magazine photographer and movie director Gordon Parks, who died in New York Tuesday at 93.
Parks' funeral will be held in New York next Tuesday, and services are scheduled for Thursday, March 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Scott. Governor Sebelius is expected to speak at the Fort Scott service.
Parks' photo essays documented poverty and the spirit of the civil rights movement. His first novel, ``The Learning Tree,'' was autobiographical and dealt with the racism he encountered as a boy.
He directed a movie version of the book, as well as the hit detective film ``Shaft.''
Parks was born in Fort Scott on November 30, 1912, the youngest of 15 children.
