The salmonella warning from tomatoes has expanded to include certain cilantro and peppers.

Kansas Department of Health and environment has identified 17 cases that are linked to a nationwide outbreak of salmonella infections. Eight of the cases are in Northeast Kansas.

A nationwide study of the outbreak found that the ill were more likely to have recently consumed raw tomatoes, fresh jalapeno peppers and fresh cilantro.

Until health officials know that the contaminated products are no longer on the market you should not eat raw jalapeno or serrano peppers to be safe.
