She's a successful advocate, educator and role model. And now she will travel the state delivering a powerful message.

Today at the Capital Plaza Hotel, the state crowned the new Ms. Wheelchair Kansas 2006...

This is no beauty pageant, instead it's pageant celebrating the beauty within. Four women from around the state competed for the chance to be queen...

But they took time to have fun too, even dancing for the audience. But as last years queen knows, it's not all about winning the title...

As the judges tallied the votes, she still couldn't believe it was time to crown a new queen. The anticipation grew for the four contestants.

And finally the moment everyone was waiting for -- the new Ms. Wheelchair Kansas 2006 is Ranita Wilks of Lawrence.

And seconds after she received the crown she already started planning for her year to shine. While the other three girls didn't take home the crown, they did take away a purpose they plan to fulfill.

Along with her duties in Kansas, Ranita Wilks will also represent the state in the national competition in July in the Ms. Wheelchair America....
