She might not have Hallmark's breadth of appeal, but one Wichita woman has identified a new niche market in the greeting card business.
Prison Expressions offers greeting cards for prisoners and their families. Brenda Guiden says got the idea last fall when she tried to find a special card for a couple of brothers who are in prison.
She says the concept started out as a joke, but by December it had materialized into a new business. So far, most of Guiden's business comes from word of mouth or from the fliers she passes out. The cards have already been sent to prisoners in El Dorado, Hutchinson and Lansing.
Prison Expressions' business manager says they'll produce 50 different card designs, and hope to have new designs ready by Mother's Day. The cards are available in five languages and feature greetings appropriate for both inmates and their families.
