WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) _ The man accused of killing college student Jodi Sanderholm will have his capital murder trial in Cowley County.
Justin Thurber's attorneys sought to have the trial moved out of Cowley County, arguing that Thurber could not get a fair trial there because of too much media attention.
But District Judge James Pringle on Tuesday denied a defense motion for a change of venue. Pringle acknowledged heavy media coverage of Sanderholm's slaying, but said it was factual and not inflammatory.
Thurber is accused of the January 2007 kidnap, rape and killing of the 19-year-old Cowley County College student. Sanderholm's car was found four days later at a lake near Arkansas City, and her battered, strangled body was found 11 miles away in a wooded area.
