Man In Jail After Leading Police On Capital City Chase

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- One man is behind bars after leading Topeka Police on a short chase in a stolen vehicle.

Sergeant Kristen Hren tells 13 news 37 year old William McKnight Jr. was arrested and booked into Shawnee County Jail on several counts, including aggravated assault, aggrevated weapons violation and possession of stolen property.

Officers were called to S.E. 10th and Lime around 1:30 Sunday afternoon after a second report of shots fired.

Upon arrival police noticed a man fleeing the scene in a gold Nissan Altima. Police pursued the vehicle, driven by McKnight, who lead them on a chase until it finally came to an end at S.E. 6th and Jefferson.

Sgt. Hren says police found the vehicle to have been stolen and also found a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in close proximity to the vehicle.

There were no injuries in the incident.
