A house fire left one home completely gutted overnight Friday night.

It all happened around 11 p.m. last night on the 600 block of south east Lake St.

Fire crews arrived to find a 2 story home fully engulfed in flames, no one was home.

Engine 2 from Rice Rd was on the scene.

Engine 3 is closer, but was closed.

A couple and their grandson have been displaced.

The american red cross was on hand to assist the family.

Investigators are still trying to find the cause of the fire, but nothing points to it being related to fireworks at this time.

SOME ONE OWES THESE PEOPLE A HOUSE. IF STATION #3 HAD BEEN OPEN THEN MAYBE THESE PEOPLE WOULD STILL HAVE A HOUSE. RED ARE YOU THE SAME ONE WHO LIVED ON AMHURST RD BACK IN THE 70'S?

Better yet the firefighters that robbed the taxpayers of money by calling in "sick" and breaking the city budget, owe that family a house.

Well, Howard Giles needs to stop closing/opening Fire Station #3. If he truly cares about the City of Topeka (which he doesn't) then he should stop these tactics.

How about we stop forcing overtime on the dispatchers. We will just not staff the 911 calltakers. We will still have the police dispatcher, he can answer the phone too. Oh and the fire dispatcher, we dont need them. Firefighters are resourceful, they can dispatch themselves.

You would think on the day of FIRE, the fourth of July and the idiots that are out there they would staff every station and company to its fullest. Good going chief...

Looks as though the fire chief through his devote wisdom owes some people a house
