Firefighters from four counties are struggling to contain a blaze that has consumed about 2,200 acres of mostly agricultural land southeast of Hutchinson.
The fire started around 2:15 p.m. Thursday in western Harvey
County, near the Reno County line.
Harvey County emergency director Courtney Becker says a handful
of homes have been evacuated. So far no injuries have been reported, and damage is limited to outbuildings.
The cause is unknown. Becker says the fire started on about 20
acres of private land near the town of Burrton, about 15 miles
southeast of Hutchinson, and spread quickly.
Harvey County has been under a burn ban for the past four weeks.
Becker says about ten fire departments from four counties sent
personnel.
