Four-hundred-40-thousand dollars for a former student in the Tonganoxie School District to settle a lawsuit over alleged bullying by his classmates.
Dylan Theno, 18, says he is surprised by the settlement, but feels good about it.
Theno sued the district in May 2004, claiming he was bullied because other students believed he was gay. He says the harrassment started when he was in seventh grade, and continued until he quit school in his junior year. His lawsuit claimed that he had to quit, because the bullying was so severe.
Theno has testified that he is NOT gay. He recently earned his GED and attends a vocational-technical school in Kansas City, Kansas.
There's no immediate comment from the school district or its attorney.
