(Junction City, KS)-- A Fort Riley Soldier has been released from the hospital after getting shot by his friend in a vehicle early Saturday morning in Junction City.

20-year-old Ft. Riley soldier Asher Barnes was shot one time in the back by his friend Ft.Riley Soldier Domonique Day when the gun he was holding discharged. Police report the incident happened around 1:30AM Saturday. Day was sitting in the passenger seat of the car when the gun he was holding discharged striking Barnes in the drivers seat.

Day is charged with aggravated battery and is being held at the Geary County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting remains under investigation, but investigators say they believe the shooting was not intentional.

why did this soldier have a gun in the car in the first place that late at night and off post after work hours. sounds like he planned to do something to someone.
