This story is nearly too ironic to believe. A house on Amherst was the only house untouched on the entire block in the tornado, Wednesday morning it was struck by lightning and went up in flames.

You can say the Tindall family were the lucky ones last Wednesday night.

"It's my understanding there was no damage to their house. I think they lost a cushion from their patio furniture,” family friend Jennifer Walker said.

In fact the Tindall's have been giving of their time all week helping other familes hit by the tornado.

"They have been so involved in all the work that has been going on in Manhattan the last couple days by helping other families out."

Now those families are reaching out to them. Just after 1AM Wednesday morning they heard the crack of the lightning as is struck the roof of their home.

"She was like Mark, I think the lightning hit our house. About that time is when the lights went off in the hallway. The room was already full of smoke. She said she could only see the bottom of the crib but thats how quick the smoke had already filled the room."

"They're just lucky, so lucky, the fire looks as though it was very close to the girls rooms."

Jennifer says when she thinks of how ironic it is she finds words hard to come by, "I don’t know honestly I don't know what to think about it. I've had those thoughts going through my head today and I'm just glad they are okay."

Jennifer Tindall didn't want to speak on camera. Obviously a long night for her. She did say they will be okay and are just fortunate their family is safe. Through it all they still consider themselves lucky.

The Tindall's have been living in their home for three years now. They say they will rebuild.

What an emotional whirlwind this family is going through. Being so thankful and grateful one week while trying to help their neighbors who are devastated to then be close to death themselves the next week in another natural disaster type of situation. Thank God no one was hurt, but emotional strain must be heavy. There is a guardian angel looking out for them from above.

We are happy no one was hurt. Thank goodness. God has a funny way to keep us safe sometimes.

Who reads something like this only to criticize the writing? I'm sure when the family was speaking about this, they were a little shaken! Grammar was probably not their focus! Tip for Mark : Get off of your high pompous horse!

I find it funny that you are commenting on the trivial things like how 'poorly-written' it is. How about instead you consider the actual story and how horrible this family is feeling. These are real people--not just a story.

I am curious how politeness escapes Meggin from Pugwash. Indeed, the story looks poorly written. However, much may be attributed to the fact it is quoted from an interview, rather than professionally written. Perhaps Meggin's parents did not teach consideration. Perhaps Meggin's inner dialogue is broken. Tip for Meggin: If you cannot say something nice, people will prefer your silence over your venom. On the topic of writing, I wonder how Meggin can feel comfortable with such a critique. It appears that she cannot even spell her own name correctly.

Poorly written does not-require a hyphen, good catch Joe.

I'm more curious why you think that poorly written needs a hyphen?

Your writer flunked Grade 8 English. This is one of the most poorly-written stories I've read in a long time. Where was your editor when this was submitted?
