2 Hospitalized After Car Rams Into Tree

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning after the car they were riding in plowed into a tree in Topeka's Highland Park neighborhood.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday (11/1) in the 2500 block of SE Indiana Avenue.

Authorities say the four-door Subaru WRX was traveling north when it left the road, went through several front yards, and hit a tree head on.

Passengers in the front and back seats were transported to a Topeka hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities say. Police say the driver was able to walk away from the crash.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the driver told police he and some buddies had been drinking until about 3:00 a.m. Thursday.

The accident is under investigation.
