Charges Filed Against 2 Carjacking Suspects

Released by Topeka Police Wednesday:
Coopwood and Stewart have now been charged with Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Kidnapping. They were transported to Shawnee County Department of Corrections this afternoon.

Released by Topeka Police Tuesday:
Carjacking victims from Monday-- Carl Boyd, age 50 of Topeka and Amber Cordero, age 21 of Burlingame.

Released by Topeka Police Monday morning:
At approximately 12:45 this morning, the Kansas Highway Patrol was involved in a pursuit on eastbound I-70 near exit 415B in Kansas City, KS. The pursuit ended when the car left the roadway and came to a stop.

Two subjects fled on foot, and Troopers realized that two victims were inside the trunk of the car.

The two subjects that fled the scene were captured by surrounding law enforcement in the area.

Early details of the investigation revealed that the two victims were kidnapped from Topeka on Sunday night around 9:45 p.m during a carjacking at 6th and Arter.

Topeka Police sent personnel to Kansas City to continue the investigation.

At this time we can report that the two subjects are in custody and are being held in Kansas City for formal charging.

The two arrested were Jakeem Coopwood , age 24 and Lashon Stewart, age 20. This is an on-going investigation and no other details are available at this time.
