Sandra Lassiter's Community First group appears to have another chance to turn the Sumner School into a private school.
The City Council will vote to enter into a two-month contract with Community First at next week's council meeting.
It essentially gives them a two-month extension to raise funds for the school. According to City Manager Norton Bonaparte, the group is not close financially to secure the school.
A new investor entering the picture could change that. Christopher Posey with investor-development group Urban Development. They are very interested in Sumner, but needs time to do its homework.
They will look at the school as an investment, and will hope it is a wise one to continue.
Based on what each member said, it appears a certainty the extension will be granted. The group will then have 60 days to come up with the $3.5 million.
