May 15th is MPS National Awareness Day and...crazy dress up day at McLouth Elementary. Students dressed up to honor their terminally ill classmate, 9 yr. old Seth Van Nostrand.
Seth was diagnosed with MPS type 2 also known as Hunters Syndrome when he was 4 years old.
MPS is a genetic disorder that involves an abnormal storage of mucopolysaccharides caused by the lack of a specific enzyme. However, the disorder does not run in the Van Nostrand's family. Doctors call Seth's case, spontaneous.
Seth has been in the hospital since Friday but that didn't stop Seth's family from spreading the word on MPS at school and the kids appreciated it.
