Dr. Natalie Driego, an emergency room Physician at St. Francis hospital, treated 15 yr. old Felicity Wishkeno when she was admitted to the hospital after being struck by lightning. She says she has never seen a case like this.

Do you know someone who's ever been struck by lightning?
Yes, they are doing ok.
Yes.
No.

It's a rare case but gettng struck by lightning during a thunderstorm can definitely happen if you are near water or electrical outlets.

It happened just after 5PM Saturday as a strong line of thunderstorms pushed across Shawnee County. The storm had with it pea size hail and lightning but the classification of the storm was not strong enough to be classified as severe.

Felicity is in stable condition as of Sunday.

Her dad says a lightning bolt hit the outside of their home and went through the plumbing shocking Felicity on Saturday. She passed out right outside the bathroom door. Her parents say less than 24 hours later that Felicity is acting like her normal self, happy go lucky, eating and talking.

However, they say she is expected to be in the hospital for a couple of weeks as neurosurgeons and specialists run tests.

"She's doing alot better right now alot of her symptoms have started to resolve. This is the first time I have seen somebody being in a home that's actually been struck by lightning that hit the house; typically it tends to happen when your outdoors," says Dr. Driego. "There are things you need to do to protect yourself, stay away from water, golf courses, all appliances...."
