KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ Talks have resumed in the strike by 2,500 union workers against the General Motors Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas.

United Auto Workers Local 31 went on strike Monday after negotiations for a local contract failed. Union leaders say the company's disregard for seniority in awarding jobs at the plant is the main obstacle to a local
contract.

Local president Jeff Manning says the union and GM returned to bargaining Tuesday.

A lengthy strike could hurt GM because the Fairfax plant makes the Chevrolet Malibu, whose sales are up 32 percent through the first four months of the year.

A GM spokesman says the company is reviewing whether to increase
production of Malibus at a plant in Michigan.

Manning says the last local strike at Fairfax was in 1972.
