Effect Of New Science Standards Uncertain
With state science assessments in 2008, the question is whether or not school districts will wait until after the 2006 state school board elections to implement changes in evolution curriculums. Posted: 5:53 PM Nov 9, 2005Reporter: Kevin MacDonald |

Good or bad -- the decision was made and now it's up to school districts how they'll update the curriculum on evolution.
"Next summer I will convene as many science teachers as I can to look at the revised standards to see what changes would we want and or need to make," Gloria Fish, USD 501 Curriculum Coordinator, said.
Until then USD 501won't make any changes.
"For the rest of the school year we will do exactly what we've been doing," Fish said.
Even if there is a shift from conservative back to moderate after the 2006 state school board elections -- students will be prepared on the new standards for the 2008 science assessment.
"So we will make the changes that need to be made to ensure that that happens, and then we may be having this same conversation a year from now," Fish said.
New science textbooks aren't scheduled to be ordered until 2009. If any changes are made to the curriculum teachers will have to find supplemental materials.
