Governor Gearing up for More Evacuees Save Email Print

Governor Sebelius is gearing up for more evacuees on their way to Kansas and she's spearheading a blood drive Friday in preparation. With folks already flocking north to Kansas the state's governor says more are likely on the way.

Armed with optimism Governor Sebelius kick started her blood drive Thursday.
She explained,
"It's a good thing to remind everybody this is a good way that everybody can have a role in is to give blood."

With 800 hurricane evacuees already spread throughout Kansas more are on the way.

"On Monday we should be receiving 500 people who will be flown into Kansas." said Governor Sebelius.

They're expected to land in Wichita and at least stay there for awhile.
"That may be the first wave of additional people that we're anticipating receiving over the next couple of weeks. This is a work in progress." Explained Sebelius.

Meanwhile units from the Kansas National Guard continue their progress to clear residents from New Orleans. Evacuees who could soon call Kansas home as the governor is working to secure hotel space and state campuses to more accommodate evacuees who want to stay.

"We're looking for those who may be able to be relocate for a more substantial period of time."

To help assist with the expected of evacuees the governor's blood drive will be held Friday from 11am to 2pm on the first floor of the statehouse.
