Kansans continue to help victims of the hurricane that struck the Gulf Coast last week.

The state's division of Emgerency Management is working with city, county and volunteer agencies to plan for housing of evacuees. Potential sites are being evaluated. And the agency will coordinate placement activities once the evacuees arrive.

Meanwhile, pilots from the Kansas Air National Guard's wings in Topeka and Wichita are flying personnel and equipment to the Gulf Coast around the clock.

About 50 guardsmen and women with an expertise in communications
have deployed to Louisiana.

The guard also has sent its new mobile medical unit to the scene of the disaster. The unit houses emergency and surgery rooms, dental and pharmaceutical services and inpatient-bed areas.
