Rescuers are sending Hurricane Katrina evacuees to shelters throughout the United States.
If Kansas is chosen, Wichita or Topeka would be the top two places to set up shelter.
Many top officials from Topeka, Shawnee County and local agencies called in an early Labor Day weekend to attend a spur of the moment meeting where they decided upon the actions they would take if evacuees come to Topeka.
Hurricane evacuees have already come to Topeka to stay with family or friends.

The agricultural hall at the Expocentre will become the new home to a number of emergency relief agencies.
If a massive number of evacuees come to Topeka, it would be easy to open up shelter at the Landon arena.
Kathy Allen with Kansas Emergency Response says, "We wanted to as a community be able to develop some sort of action plan and have all of our resources in line."
Officials do not know if any hurricane victims will be brought to Topeka; they just want to be ready.
The service center should open on Tuesday.
