TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Investigators say a home in Northeast Topeka was intentionally set on fire Monday morning.

A passing motorist noticed the fire at 424 NE Winfield around 5:20 a.m. and notified the Topeka Fire Department.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible as fire crews arrived on scene. Firefighters searched the burning home for victims as they fought the blaze. No victims were found.

The homeowners were out of town when the home caught on fire, according to a relative on scene Monday morning.

Two fire investigators were called to the burned home, and ruled the fire incendiary, or intentionally set. Investigators say an accelerant-detecting canine was used in the investigation.

Fire officials estimate damages to the property at $35,000. $25,000 for structural damage, and $10,000 for contents inside the property.

Anyone with information about the fire is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at (785) 234-0007.
