Senator Sam Brownback took time out of the August recess to speak to constituents about hot topics on Capitol Hill.

The senator's visit comes on the heels of a report released by the American Medical Association saying an unborn fetus doesn't feel pain until around the seventh month of pregnancy.

The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act was introduced by Brownback and would require women who were seeking an abortion past 20 weeks of pregnancy be notified of possible pain an abortion might cause to the fetus.

It would also require women be offered an anesthetic for the fetus.

"We know that the child feels pain, now the question is at what time," Sen. Sam Brownback, (R) Kansas.

With today's study, the original 20 week requirement may come under fire.

"I'm willing to look at new evidence, I am suspicious of the study because of the origins of the authors of the study but lets hold hearings and discuss it," Brownback said.

During his general address to those gathered inside the Capitol Plaza Hotel, Brownback touched on the energy crisis, immigration and negative publicity of the war in Iraq.

"Our enemy knows as all too well, they know the key to the United States getting us out of there is us public opinion," Brownback said.

He responded to the criticism about American casualties in Iraq.

"Yes we have had an extraordinary cost, each and every life is precious to us and we have lost too many lives, but in the process i believe we are more secure and the world is more free," Brownback said.

People around the nation may soon take notice of the Kansas senator's opinions there is still plenty of speculation about his 2008 presidential bid.

Brownback says there is a chance he'll run for president, but for now his fetal pain bill is being reviewed by the Senate Health Committee.
