Hurricane Katrina victims who have made their way to Kansas can now receive assistance from the state Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.
SRS officials said today they are gearing up to provide access to benefits such as cash assistance, food stamps, medical care and child care.
Officials say survivors will be treated as though they were Kansas residents and will have access to benefits if otherwise eligible. Verification of certain eligibility requirements may be waived until the information can be obtained.
Victims can access SRS services by calling 1-888-369-4777.
