In an effort to ease potential problems with fuel supplies, Kansas will accept a waiver on fuel blends issued by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Because of Hurricane Katrina's impact on gasoline production, the EPA told states that it's waiving two federal restrictions on gasoline and diesel fuels. EPA Administrator Steven Johnson says the action is being taken to minimize supply disruptions.
One requirement being waived says designated areas must use low volatility gasoline during summer months to limit ozone pollution.
The EPA also is waiving a requirement that diesel fuel have a sulfur content that does not exceed 500 parts per million and be free of visible evidence of red dye.
