A third full day of deliberations ends without a verdict in the fraud trial of two former Westar Energy executives.
The panel will return to work tomorrow at the federal courthouse
in Kansas City, Kansas.
The jury heard some ten weeks of arguments and evidence on the
government's claims against former Westar CEO David Wittig and former chief strategy officer Douglas Lake.
Prosecutors allege the two men looted the Topeka-based utility before Wittig was forced out in late 2002. They face 40 counts apiece of conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering and circumventing internal controls.
Wittig and Lake argue they acted lawfully, and with approval from Westar's board of directors.
The jury deliberated last Thursday and Friday, then took Monday off.
