Phishing tops this year's list of tax scams. Phishing is when you receive an email, phone call or text message from someone claiming to be with the I.R.S. wanting your personal information.
One problem -- the I.R.S. already has your personal information.
So the number one tip from I.R.S. agents? DO NOT give out personal information. The I.R.S. doesn't need it, and if someone claims they do, it is likely a scam.
Also, be sure to be careful of who you trust to prepare your taxes. If their fee depends on your return, they are probably not very trustworthy.
