TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Senate passes legislation to deal with illegal immigration.
The 40-0 vote Thursday sends the bill to the House, which has its immigration bill set for debate later in the day.
Passage followed some seven hours of debate that didn't end until the pre-dawn hours Thursday. Most debate was on trying to return the bill to its original form, which backers said was a stronger version.
The bill makes it a crime to use false identification to get a job, engage in human trafficking or coerce workers. It also creates an illegal immigration enforcement unit within the attorney general's office.
