State officials are joining forces to make guns safer in Kansas.
At a news conference Thursday, in Wichita, Lieutenant Governor John Moore, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Wichita Police Department announced the next phase of Project ChildSafe.
The goal is to distribute 155,000 free cable gun locks to owners in hopes of improving gun safety.
The program is part of a national effort among U.S. attorneys, states and local law enforcement officials. Last year, Kansas distributed more than 218,000 gun locks and safety kits which include information about proper handling of a firearm.
Funds from the program come from grants from the U.S. Department of Justice.
