Secretary of Administration Duane Goossen Monday briefed the media on a new online database of State of Kansas revenues and expenditures, to be known as KanView, and provided a demonstration of the data that will be available.

“Transparency in government is something I have long supported,” said Governor Kathleen Sebelius. “I hope Kansans find this to be a helpful tool in seeking information.”

KanView is a partnership between the Department of Administration and the Information Network of Kansas, the state’s Web portal and provider of eGovernment solutions. The site will be available to the public beginning Friday, February 29th.

KanView fulfills language included in the FY 2008 appropriations bill, passed by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Sebelius last year. Legislation similar to that language is included in House Bill 2730, which was passed by the Kansas House of Representatives earlier this month.

Data for the site is taken from the statewide accounting and reporting system, or STARS. As required by the Legislation, KanView will eventually contain additional data and be made more accessible by the ongoing upgrade to a statewide financial management system.

KanView will be accessible at http://www.accesskansas.org/kanview/index.html beginning Friday, February 29th.
