The Department of Homeland Security and FEMA have awarded $159,993 to two more Kansas fire departments. This week's round of national fire grants includes $72,922 for Council Grove's Fire Department. There's also another $87,071 for the department in Hill City (Graham County).
The new grants bring the total to over $18 million. Nationally, the AFG grants will uttimately provide more than $490 million to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations through the country. FEMA says it wants to make sure the nation's firefighters continue having the basic capability to do their jobs, improve community safety and prevent the loss of lives.
