Kansas City, Kansas, has another competitor in its bid to become the site of NASCAR's hall of fame.
Richmond, Virginia, is finalizing a proposal to bring the attraction to its International Raceway.
Besides Kansas City, at least two others are vying for the hall, including Charlotte, North Carolina, and Daytona Beach, Florida.
Kansas Speedway is just entering its fifth season, so backers of putting the hall there acknowledge other cities have much stronger associations with stock-car racing.
But Speedway president Jeff Boerger says Kansas City is the best location for helping NASCAR reach beyond its traditional fan base in the Southeast.
