WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Corporation Commission is backing off a controversial interpretation of federal trucking regulations as they apply to farmers hauling grain or livestock to market.
Commission spokeswoman Rosemary Foreman said today the agency
took a closer look at the regulations following the outcry from the public and lawmakers. With further study, the commission now says the federal guidelines provide disgression to states.
That means the stricter regulations need not apply to farmers moving grain or cattle within the state. They only come into play when the farmer's intent is move commodities across state lines.
Senator Pat Roberts says he is pleased the commission quickly clarified their position. He says this common sense approach is much more practical for Kansas farmers and ranchers.

I think the KCC needs to inforce all the semis owned by farmers to prove milage and file a heavy use truck tax like all commercial carriers.
