Greg Orman has dropped out of the U.S. Senate race against current republican Pat Roberts.
Mike Gaughan, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, said Saturday evening that 39-year-old Orman told party officials of his decision this week.
Critics said that it would have been a long shot for the political unknown to unseat Roberts who served eight terms in the U.S. House before winning a Senate seat in 1996.
The party says they know of no other candidates. No democrat has won a U.S.
Senate seat in Kansas since 1932.
It is unknown why Orman dropped from the race.
