The Chicago judge whose mother and husband died in an execution-style shooting in her own home says she's furious over what she calls a "cold-blooded'' attack.
Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow found the bodies of her mother, Donna Humphrey, 89, Denver, and formerly from northeast Kansas, Michael Lefkow, 64, when she returned home from work Monday. Both had been shot in the head and left in a pool of blood.
Officials say Donna and Otis Humphrey raised two daughters and two sons in Nemaha County. They moved back to Colorado in the mid-1960s.
The Chicago Tribune today quotes Lefkow as saying she always knew her job might put her at risk, but never imagined it could endanger her family. Her mother used a walker, and her husband was on crutches because of foot surgery.
