Dismissal of the misdemeanor charge against Meredith Kane does not affect the almost five year sentence she received for having sex with a 15 year-old

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A judge has dropped a misdemeanor charge against a former Lawrence teacher convicted of having sex with a student when he was 15.
The dismissal will not affect Meredith Kane's prison sentence of nearly five years on a guilty plea to felony indecent liberties with a child. Kane is also required to register as a sex offender.
Kane had faced one count of violation of a protective order because she continued seeing the boy after her guilty plea in July. Prosecutors filed the misdemeanor so Douglas County District Judge Stephen Six would revoke her bond and jail her until sentencing.
After the sentencing, prosecutors filed to drop the misdemeanor charge.
Kane was a first-year English teacher at Lawrence High School until her arrest in March. The relationship lasted several months.
