TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A newspaper is reporting that Attorney General Paul Morrison made hundreds of phone calls this year to a woman with whom he was having an affair.

Citing phone records, The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that from July 11th through August 10th, Morrison spent an average of more than two hours a day on the phone with Linda Carter.

But Morrison said today that the affair did not prevent him from making sure the attorney general's office was ``back working for the people of Kansas.'' He noted that he formed new units on Internet crime and domestic violence and personally prosecuted a capital murder case in Cowley County.

Morrison acknowledged having an affair with Carter, who has said it lasted two years, starting in September 2005. He denies her allegations of professional misconduct but plans to resign January 31st.
