TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Attorney General Paul Morrison said Tuesday that he will ask the Kansas Office of Disciplinary Administrator to investigate allegations of professional and legal misconduct a former staffer made against him.

"It is essential that the people of Kansas have confidence in the office of attorney general,'' Morrison said. "The allegations that I attempted to influence ongoing cases or improperly gain information are absolutely false.''

On Sunday, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Linda Carter filed a claim against Morrison last month with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. According to her account, her affair with Morrison began in September 2005 and lasted about two years.

She accused Morrison of unsuccessfully trying to persuade her to write letters on behalf of eight former employees fired from the Johnson County District Attorney's office by Phill Kline, the attorney general Morrison defeated last year.

Morrison acknowledged he had an extramarital affair with Carter.
