Parents of student athletes gathered at Topeka High School Monday evening for a forum about how to succeed and be ready for college recruitment programs.

Parents could ask questions and learn what is expected if their athlete wants to play a sport in college. Lesia Carter is the Social Worker and Play It Smart Coordinator at THS. She headed the forum and answered questions from parents.

"If they get the information a little bit at a time by their senior year it won't be so overwhelming," said Carter.

She should know. Her son Terrance graduated from Topeka High School and played football for Colorado State.

"I wish I could have known what college life was all about.... I wish I would have known if the coaches were putting on a show to get you in the school," said Terrance Carter.

Play It Smart helps students and their parents with those challenges and the academic challenges as well.
