Republican Jim Ryun took another step in trying to regain the Second District Congressional seat, officially opening his Topeka campaign headquarters Wednesday.
Ryun and his wife Anne were on hand to thank the volunteers who were already at work stuffing envelopes and making calls.
Ryun served five terms before being defeated last November by Democrat Nancy Boyda. He says it's not too early to be out campaigning. Ryun says he think it's going to be an expensive race. That's why he's gearing up early, not just with fundraising but with a grass roots effort, including getting out to every meeting he can possibly attend.
Ryun already knows who one challenger will be in the Republican primary - state treasurer Lynn Jenkins. Her campaign manager, Patrick Leopold, says Jenkins will be spreading her message of fiscal responsibility and is upgrading her online headquarters, www.lynnjenkins.com.
