A trip to the mall turned into a bigger than expected event for four teens.
Stephanie Jones, Taylor Janda, Caleb Offner and Winston Buckhalter witnessed a hit and run accident in the parking lot of West Ridge Mall.
The group notified police officer Anthony Darr, who was working security for the mall. A description of the passenger and the vehicle helped in locating the responsible party.
The group of teens was given the Champion of Character award on Wednesday afternoon. Safe Streets Coalition and Topeka City of Character said the four demonstrated character that significantly improved the health, safety and quality of life in the community.
