AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) _ Morris Communication is planning to sell 14 daily newspapers and other properties to GateHouse Media for 115 million dollars in cash.
Include in the sale are three Kansas newspapers, the Dodge City Daily Globe, The Newton Kansan and the Pittsburg, Kansas, Morning Sun. The Hannibal Courier Post and Independence Examiner in Missouri are also for sale.
Morris said it will use proceeds from the sale to pay down debt. The transaction is expected to close before the end of November.
Morris Publishing owns and operates 27 daily newspapers, while GateHouse is one of the largest publishers of locally based print and online media in the U.S. It has more than 450 publications, including 90 daily newspapers, in 20 states.
