A five year old girl is on her way back to Topeka tonight but she is without her parents. Her father is a suspect in her mother's murder and abduction of their daughter. He later Allegedly took his own life.

31year old Melissa Shirk was found shot to death in her home around 10:30 yesterday morning. Her daughter, 5 year old Stormy, was missing.
"You couldn't imagine something like this happening."

This quiet Topeka neighborhood is still trying to understand what happened yesterday. Melissa Shirk was found dead and her ex-husband, 29 year old Justin Shirk, allegeded abducted their daughter.This sparked a 6 state Amber Alert that led police to Stormy.

The KBI cedits the Amber Alert for finding Stormy.
Kyle Smith said, "It was a trucker in Wyoming that heard the Amber Alert and law enforcement picked him up east of Laramie."
An Albany County sheriff's deputy in Wyoming spotted the car parked along a country road. He said Stormy ran out of a car that matched the description police were looking for.
Shortly after, Justin Shirk allegedly fatally shot himself in the head.
Relatives went to Wyoming to bring Stormy back to Topeka.
Today a flower memorial was at Melissa's home.
John Thompson, her next door neighbor, said she was a great person.

"She was a great mom she would bring her daughter out and play in the mud puddles and show her about nature."

Melissa and Justin Shirk divorced in November but John Thompson never heard arguments.
He said,
"The only thing I saw was outside, so people do different things behind closed doors."

The investigation continues.
Melissa Shirk's family issued the following statement today:
"The family would like to thank law enforcement for the mass efforts put forth, the amber alert coverage by the media and everyone who has prayed for Melissa and also Stormy's safety."
