The NFL may seem a lofty goal to tackle if you’re from the fields of a small town like Riley, Kan. But don't tell that to Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson or the Chiefs Jon McGraw.
Both Riley County High School Falcon alums are suiting up for the big show.
“It's unusual to have two guys from our school in the NFL and at the same time,” said Coach Steve Wagner.
McGraw is a 1997 Riley County High grad. Wagner said from the first day of freshman training camp, the then mere 120-pound-McGraw always carried the potential to go pro.
"When Jon made it, it showed everyone that it was possible…that had to be in the back of Jordy’s head,” said Wagner.
Jordy essentially followed Jon's football footsteps. After graduating in 2003, Jordy also kept his talents close to home and walked on at Kansas State University.
The current Riley County High football team will be there to cheer them on for their first face off. The NFL donated tickets and Jordy and Jon are providing transportation for about 112 students and staff to make the trip to Arrowhead Stadium for Thursday’s game.
“It will definitely give me some motivation to just keep getting better and one day be on that level,” said Riley County High football team captain Calvin Kenney.
The falcons will share some of the spotlight at Arrowhead. The team will walk the field at 6:15 prior to the game. You can see the game on MyTV starting at 7p.m. Thursday.
