WELLINGTON, Kan. (AP) _ The effort to build a state-owned casino
in Sumner County has begun again, with three developers detailing
proposals for casinos in the south-central Kansas county.
The developers presented their plans on Tuesday to the Sumner County Commission, which is expected to decide Aug. 17 whether to endorse any of them.
Peninsula Gaming Partners and Harrah's Sumner Investment Co. both want to build a casino near Mulvane. And Oklahoma-based Global Gaming wants to build its casino outside Wellington.
Harrah's backed out of the county in 2008, citing economic concerns. A second attempt to build a casino in the county fizzled last spring when Chisholm Creek Casino Resort withdrew because of possible competition from a tribal casino in Park City.
The commission can endorse more than one plan. A state board will eventually pick the developer.
