Emporia Man Died From Smoke Inhalation, Police Say

Officials released the name of the Emporia man who was found dead in a house fire Tuesday afternoon. Sixty-four year-old David Warnke was found dead inside his home at 114 S. Market St., in Emporia.

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Officials released the name of the Emporia man who was found dead as firefighters battled in a house fire Tuesday afternoon. Sixty-four year-old David Warnke was found dead inside his home at 114 S. Market St., in Emporia.

In a Thursday morning news release Emporia authorities said "Preliminary findings from the Coroner's office indicate that Mr. Warneke died of smoke inhalation and the the death was accidental"

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

Firefighters were called to the house around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. They quickly extinguished the flames, containing them to the front half of the building before finding Warnke's body.
