GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A tip led officers in Grandview Plaza to uncover a portable meth lab inside a room at a local hotel.
On Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 7:40 PM, members of the Geary County Drug Task Force and the Grandview Plaza Police Department responded to a Crime Stoppers tip of a reported lab at the Red Carpet Inn, located a 110 E. Flinthills Boulevard in Grandview Plaza.
Grandview Plaza Police Chief Brad Clark says a lab was located in room 126. The room was contained and the area was secured. A haz-mat team from Kansas City was called in to help dispose of the materials.
Joshua Cartee, 36, and Jamie Huckaby, 33, both from South Carolina, were arrested for Manufacturing of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Manufacturing of Methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a school.
Chief Clark says it’s been more than six years since a meth lab was found in Grandview Plaza.
He tells WIBW that the suspects were “cooking” meth in the hotel room using soda bottles and the “one-pot method” or “shake-and-bake method”- a process that is easier than traditional meth labs and uses materials that can be easily purchased at any local convenience store and transported.
Clark encourages citizens to continue to use Crime Stoppers at gearycrimestoppers.com.
