TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka authorities have identified the homicide victim of Thursday morning as 34-year-old Ashley M. Alcala of Topeka. Topeka authorities ruled the suspicious death of Alcala Thursday morning as a homicide. It is the eleventh homicide this year in the city, and the third this week.
Officers discovered her beaten body at 7:19 a.m. after being called to 3022 SE Kentucky Ave. to check on an unresponsive woman.
Topeka Police Department spokesperson Kristen Veverka said Thursday that details about her death are still unfolding as authorities investigate. Investigators are waiting on search warrants to enter the home and two vehicles outside the home.
Neighbors say a family with children lived in the home and a relative reported the death. District Attorney Chad Taylor tells 13 News the crime happened inside the home.
